Pedal for People’s Produce
Come Join the Fight to Improve Denver’s Health Equity at Denver Food Rescue’s 4th Annual Food Rescue Ride
HEY all you foodies! While the summer sun has kicked in and Colorado harvest season is thriving, why not come on a bike ride with a bunch of caring community members and support Denver Food Rescue’s mission to increase health equity in our city?
DFR is a grassroots food organization working to redistribute fresh foods to low income residents of Denver. Many of these residents are in areas without a full service grocery store, lack public transportation, and often don’t even have pantries located where they are needed most. By rescuing foods in a sustainable manner (via bicycle), we are supporting people in accessing their right to have fresh produce available in proximity to their homes, while ALSO helping reduce the 40% of food that is unnecessarily wasted every year.
Here are the DEETS for the Food Rescue Ride:
Are we rescuing food on this ride?
Not on this ride, but you’re welcome to sign up to volunteer for a rescue ride in the future! This un-gala, non-racing event is Denver Food Rescue’s largest fundraising event of the year! We’re there to connect with and celebrate the community, appreciate good food & drinks & prizes, and educate others on what we do at DFR.
I have no bike, but want to ride. What happens now?
We’ve got you covered. There will be hybrid and road bikes available to rent on-site.
Where and how far am I riding? Is it reasonable for a Saturday morning?
It’s very reasonable. Choose your adventure with a 15 or 30 mile joy ride. Need more of a challenge? You can also volunteer to bring a trailer and pull 100 pounds of soil around as well. Meet us at the ever-beautiful and scenic Cherry Creek State Park on Saturday, August 25th, at 9 am! After signing up to ride, you’ll receive an official parking pass! Parking will be right next to all of the festivities (look for bright colors and food-related things).
What’s a rough packing list?
-your tuned up and ready-to-go bicycle!
-plenty of water and sunscreen
-helmet/sunhat/sunglasses
-comfortable riding shoes/clothing (or dress up as your favorite fruit or vegetable)
