Hace un par de semanas, estaba dejando comida rescatada en Sun Valley Kitchen. Cuando terminamos de descargar las cajas de productos de Whole Foods, de repente me vi en un mercado al aire libre en Tlaxcala, México. Fue donde compré comida cada semana durante un año. Podía oler los puestos de comida, ver los productos frescos y vibrantes y escuchar a los vendedores gritando el nombre y el precio de sus productos:?Jitomates. Pesos de membrillo al kilo.?

Volví al presente y me pregunté: ¿Cómo ocurrió ese flashback? ?

Miré la parte inferior de la caja de Whole Foods y vi trozos de ajo rotos, las capas externas de cebolla y pétalos de flores de cempas? Chil (caléndula), especialmente populares en México alrededor de D? A de los Muertos. ¿En Code Switch? Usted es lo que come? Podcast, comparte Gene Demby, «la estructura olfativa en tu nariz está conectada directamente con la amígdala y el hipocampo, las partes de tu cerebro que provocan emociones y recuerdos». En otras palabras, el olfato tiene el poder de provocar recuerdos y emociones del pasado y, por lo tanto, tocar nuestros corazones. Por esta razón, la comida juega un papel mucho más importante en nuestras vidas que la simple nutrición física. La comida es emocional, incluso espiritual. Nos conecta con nuestra familia, nuestra cultura, nuestra identidad.

En Denver Food Rescue, creemos que la comida se trata de todas estas cosas: lo físico, lo cultural, lo emocional y más. Nos encanta poder ofrecer productos frescos a los participantes del Programa de comestibles sin costo, para que puedan cocinar las comidas que atraen sus corazones, las comidas reconfortantes que recuerdan de su juventud. Es una manera de conectarse la gente a sus razas – Es una forma de conectar a las personas con sus raíces.

Como se comenta en? Eres lo que comes? la cultura no para de transformarse ni de estancarse. Por lo tanto, también nos encanta proporcionar a los participantes del NCGP productos que no hayan visto antes o con los que no estén familiarizados. Invitamos a todas las personas a probar nuevas cocinas y seguir adaptando y desarrollando las recetas que utilizan. No es necesario ser italiano para comer berenjena, mexicano para comer jícama o asiático para comer bok choy. Alentamos a todos a que vean la cultura alimentaria como viva y cambiante. Es algo con lo que puede ser creativo y al mismo tiempo rendir homenaje a las sociedades y culturas que nos dieron los alimentos únicos que comemos y amamos hoy.

Entonces, díganos – ¿Qué alimentos / platos le hablan a su corazón? ¿Cuáles son las raíces culturales / familiares de los alimentos que consume? ¿Cómo ha introducido nuevos elementos e ingredientes en la alimentación de sus raíces?

We are so happy to be working in partnership with We are so happy to be working in partnership with SloHi Bike to share the great news about the Electric Bike rebate being offered by the City of Denver. Throughout the summer we will be offering the community opportunities to try out the bikes and assist with the application process.

Denver eBike Rebate Overview:
Starting April 22, City of Denver residents will be eligible to instantly save $400 off any eBike and $900 off any e-CargoBike. Income-qualified residents may also qualify for a $1,200 instant rebate.
Personal Eligibility:
This instant rebate is offered to all City of Denver residents over the age of 16. Proof of a physical Denver address is required. Full eligibility details are available at the bottom of this page. 
eBike Eligibility:
All bikes stocked and sold by SloHi are eligible, with the exception of a few full-suspension eMTBs. Our staff is happy to review your needs and budget in order to make the best recommendation for you and your family.
