About the Healthy Choice Food Box Program
Launched in 2016, the Healthy Choice Food Box Program has been a critical part of our efforts to support families with fresh, culturally relevant food. Funded by the Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids (HFDK) Initiative, the program has provided essential nutrition to over 600 families per month, delivering fresh produce and pantry staples directly to participants’ doors.
We offer two box arrangements: one with an American-inspired selection and another with a Latin-inspired menu. These options ensure cultural relevance while also helping to reduce food waste by offering foods that are familiar and preferred by participants.
Our program is designed to overcome barriers to food access that aren’t always visible, such as transportation challenges, limited mobility, and lack of access to fresh, nutritious food. By delivering boxes directly to homes, we make it easier for families to access the foods they need to prepare healthy meals, regardless of their circumstances.
Each box contains a variety of fresh produce and pantry staples, thoughtfully curated to promote balanced meals. Our goal is to nourish communities by offering food that supports health and well-being, and to reduce the impact of food insecurity in our area.
We partner with a supplier that focuses on local and sustainable sourcing, ensuring that the food in our boxes is not only fresh but also supports regional agriculture. Additionally, we collaborate with the local businesses, Common Harvest Colorado for food sourcing and Bondadosa for delivery, to further enhance the impact of our food distribution and support local food systems.
Together, we work to ensure that all individuals have access to nourishing food, helping our community thrive and break the cycle of food insecurity.
