Youth Education
Self-Sufficiency & Nutrition Education (SAN)
At Denver Food Rescue, we believe everyone deserves access to fresh, nutritious food and the skills to make the most of it. In 2024, 120 students participated in our SAN after-school nutrition program, building life-long skills in cooking, food safety, and sustainability.
The SAN Program is a six-week series for 1st-8th grade students, teaching:
- Cooking with available resources.
- Safe food handling, disposal, and production.
- Skills to foster lifelong healthy habits.
We partner with organizations like the Heart and Hand Center to deliver SAN programming at Columbine Elementary and two additional Denver Public Schools. By combining fresh food access with hands-on education, SAN empowers students to make healthier choices for themselves and their families.
Together, we’re fostering the next generation of food equity champions!
