The USDA’s Food & Nutrition Services pilot program recently authorized 5 organizations nationally the ability to deliver SNAP eligible food items to the homes of elderly and/or disabled SNAP recipients. Previously, SNAP purchases could only be made in person, which acted as a barrier for many SNAP participants who have trouble leaving the house or that don’t have a representative that can shop for them.
Denver Food Rescue is one of the five organizations included in the pilot program for the year trial period and is seeking to build partnerships and feedback as we move forward on this endeavor. People and organizations that work with populations that depend on SNAP and who have barriers to accessing the grocery store are encouraged to participate in the conceptualization and execution of this programming. And most importantly those that would use the service!
