I’m Letisha, the Executive Director at Denver Food Rescue. I joined DFR in December 2021. My heart lies in removing barriers that prevent the most under-resourced populations in our community from accessing culturally relevant and nutritious food. Having grown up in the poverty-stricken coal mining region of the Appalachian Mountains, I know, firsthand, the difficulties people face regarding health equity and the stigmas that are often placed on those from an early age due to their race, the class system that they are born in, and the lack of nutritious food that are easily accessible, all of which contribute to lifelong inequities. I believe that access to nutritious, culturally responsive food is a right, not a privilege. I’ve lived in Colorado for the past 25 years, spending my time working as a chef for many of the great restaurants in Denver. I pursued my degree in Psychology at Metro State University. I am currently serving as a Co-Chair for the Denver Sustainable Food Policy Council, whose mission is to influence policy that fosters food security for all community members and represents DFR on the Denver Community Access Coalition.
